This series of graphite sketches, ancient charcoal transfer techniques and oil crafting studies is an investigation of Raphael Sanzio’s famous portrait of Baldassare Castiglione, the author of The Courtier, and the originator of the concept of the Renaissance Man. The purpose was to not merely copy the external effects of the portrait but to thoroughly investigate his underlying ideas, techniques and the philosophy of the subject.
